What to Expect at the 2022 Shea BBQ

The Shea Center’s 44th Annual BBQ & Family Faire is this coming Saturday! Thank you for your support by purchasing tickets, sponsoring the event, or donating your time or auction items to help make this event a successful fundraiser.

Where is the BBQ held?

When is the BBQ?

  • Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Dress code: Casual, western wear. Layers are advisable as the weather gets cooler in the evening. *Closed-toed shoes required for barn tours.

 

What’s there to do at the BBQ?

The evening will include learning about our mission and the clients we serve, fundraising to help cover financial aid for our clients, and overall general funds needed to continue to operate, meeting our horses during barn tours, watching our clients during a horseback riding demonstration, playing carnival games with the whole family, meeting furry friends at the petting zoo and more!

  • Gates open at 4:00 p.m.
  • Barn tours 4:00 – 5:15 p.m., 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
  • Carnival 4:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
  • Line dancing demonstrations 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Flag ceremony/client riding demonstrations 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • The buffet dinner line opens for General Admission at 6:30 p.m.
  • Tableside dinner service for Sponsor Tables begins at 6:30 p.m.
  • Family Friendly Program including:
    • Rider Parade of Stars 7:30 p.m.
    • Client story
    • Live auction
    • Fosheim Rider Support Fund
    • Dancing under the stars to BBQ house band Swingshift
  • Event ends at 10:00 p.m.


ASL interpreters will be present for demonstrations and evening programs.

Event Parking

Event Entry

  • Check-in at the front of The Shea Center building.
    • All guests are encouraged to register for the auction.

Barn Tours

  • Meet our therapy horses during these select times:
    4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
    8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Carnival

  • Play games with the whole family and win prizes, stop by the petting zoo to meet our furry friends, get your face painted, and pick up your prizes at our General Store. The carnival is open from 4:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
    • Pre-purchase carnival tickets on SheaCenter.org/BBQ $20 for 25 tickets

      • Don’t wait in line at the ticket booth! Purchase your Carnival tickets ahead and receive them at check-in.

Dinner

  • Savor a delectable BBQ buffet dinner from TGIS Catering starting around 6:30 p.m.

Rider Parade of Stars

  • Celebrate our clients during a parade at 7:30 p.m.

Sensory Break Rooms

  • A quiet room and sensory calming room will be available upon request for those in need. Please ask a Shea Center staff member for assistance.

Silent Auction

  • The silent auction is online at SheaCenter.org/BBQ and is open to everyone (even if you’re not at the event) from Saturday 9/10/22 – Monday 9/19/22 and items will be available for pick up after 9/21/22 during our regular business hours 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. There are no items at the event. Live Auction

  • Have your bidder numbers ready, our live auction takes place around 8:30 p.m. and some of the items include:
    • Harley Davidson Ebike
    • Fire Station Dinner
    • France Getaway in Flavigny sur Ozerain
    • Mammoth Summer Getaway
    • Horse Sponsorship of Baxter
    • Tamber Bey Vineyards Napa Getaway

Fosheim Rider Support Fund 

  • Named for long-time supporters Penny and Jon Fosheim, the Fosheim Rider Support Fund is a time to raise your bid number to donate specifically to rider program services and financial aid.

Why do we host this event?

  • This is our largest fundraising event held each year. Voted “Best Annual Event” by The Capistrano Dispatch People’s Choice Horseshoe Awards, this event covers approximately 15% of our annual operating budget.
  • The funds from this event help cover financial aid for our clients, and overall general funds needed to continue to operate and serve our clients.
