Congratulations to Joyce Urone, our new volunteer of the month!
Why we love her: Says Volunteer Manager Michele Gingras, “Joyce is a pleasure to be around, and she brings her calming nature to the clients, staff, and herd.”
Road to The Shea Center: “A very good friend from another organization, who has been a volunteer at Shea for several decades, introduced me to The Shea Center.”
Years of service: Joyce began volunteering here in October 2022.
Lessons learned: “Having never been exposed to or involved with horses, I have learned what wonderful and amazing animals they are, especially when working in various situations and with many different personalities. I am also impressed at how the therapists interact with their clients. They are amazing!”
Favorite Shea Center memories: “Favorite memories, or moments, are when the clients prepare and feed snacks to their horse at the end of the session. Also, sidewalking in the pouring rain.”
When not volunteering at Shea, she can be found doing this: “I work as a volunteer in two other organizations but also maintain a routine schedule of working out at the gym using both weights and doing cardio exercise. My husband and I spend one morning of the week beach walking. I also love doing crossword puzzles and acrostics.”
She finds her bliss…: “I’m an early riser, and after a busy morning of activities, by the afternoon, I enjoy relaxing in the sun in my backyard with a good novel.”
