About
Meet Our Herd
Our herd of 29 specially trained horses and ponies includes 12 different breeds, each selected to meet the diverse needs of our riders. Many of our horses have backgrounds in trail riding or competition, and each undergoes a trial phase to ensure they’re suited for therapeutic work. Our horses follow customized training, feeding, and care programs to maintain their well-being and performance, including health supplements from Platinum Performance. We are grateful to Dr. Richard Markell for generously donating his time and expertise to keep our horses in top health.

Become a Horse Sponsor
Our herd plays a vital role in serving over 300 clients each session, and caring for them requires significant resources. The Shea Center’s Horse Sponsorship Program helps cover the $30,000 average annual cost per horse, including feed, bedding, farrier services, vet care, tack, and stable management. Sponsors ensure our horses stay healthy, happy, and ready to make a difference in our clients’ lives. We offer three tax-deductible sponsorship levels, with recognition for each. Click here to learn more or download our Horse Sponsorship Flyer.
The total cost to care for one horse at the Center averages $30,000 per year and does not cover any additional veterinary or medical costs that may arise. We offer three horse sponsorship recognition levels. Click below to sponsor a horse, or download our Horse Sponsorship Flyer.
Donate a Horse
Thank you for your interest in donating your horse to The Shea Center’s therapeutic riding program. Some general guidelines for horse donations include: geldings preferred, mares accepted; must be sound and in good physical condition, with a regular exercise regimen; must have a calm temperament and get along with other horses; and must be completely saddle broke and trained.
If you feel your horse may qualify for our program, please contact Christina Lee, Equine Operations Manager by emailing clee@sheacenter.org
