Congratulations to Henry, our volunteer of the month for August. Volunteer Services Manager, Michele Gingras, has this comment: “Henry’s calm demeanor allows him to work well with any client or horse. He is dependable and consistently dedicated to his commitments.”

Road to The Shea Center: “I discovered The Shea Center through Google Maps while looking for a new barn.”
Years of service: Henry began volunteering in October 2023.

Why we love him: Henry is a dependable Saturday afternoon leader whose easy-going nature is appreciated by our horses, clients, and staff.
Lessons learned: “How powerful therapeutic riding can be in building confidence and independence. It has taught me patience, empathy, and how to be a better communicator.”
Favorite Shea Center memories: “One of my favorite moments was when my client trotted on her own. Watching her progress made the moment truly special.”
When not volunteering at Shea, he can be found doing this: “I like to ride and jump my horse, Cracklin’ Rosie.”
He finds his bliss…: “When I see a client improve, remembering something [they learned] in a past lesson or improving their rhythm and balance in the trot.”
