At just six years old, Blakesly has found something that brings her calm, joy, and connection in a way few other things can. Diagnosed with autism at two and a half, she is minimally verbal, experiences sensory challenges, and often needs movement to feel regulated. While she is homeschooled with the help of a private tutor, it’s at the barn where she truly comes alive.

At The Shea Center, Blakesly is paired with her beloved horse, Murray, and therapist, Missy. From the moment she arrives, she is happy, comfortable, and fully engaged. Beyond riding, she helps care for Murray—feeding, bathing, and spending quiet time with him. It’s in those moments that she talks to him, finding her voice in ways she can’t elsewhere.

The movement and rhythm of riding help regulate her body, often calming her for the rest of the day, while also improving her strength and coordination. Horses are her one true passion, and a medal displayed in her room is a proud reminder of her accomplishments.

For Blakesly and her family, The Shea Center is more than a program—it’s a welcoming, supportive community. It’s also the one place where she receives occupational therapy, builds confidence, and connects with the world around her.
