Strawberry, aptly named for her striking red roan coloring, is a sweet-natured and sturdy Belgian Draft Quarter Horse cross. Though only four years old, she carries herself with the poise of a seasoned mare, radiating confidence and an impressive willingness to work. Strawberry’s calm and levelheaded demeanor make her an ideal match for riders of all levels at The Shea Center.

Why we love her: Strawberry is a social butterfly in and out of the barn, with a sweet nature that makes everyone want to be her friend. Staff describe her as eager, capable, and always ready to learn—like the student in the front row with her hoof raised!

What makes her a great therapy horse: Strawberry’s athletic build offers a stable base of support for a wide range of Shea Center clients. Her smooth rocking horse movement provides ideal sensory input and encourages trunk engagement, benefitting those clients working on balance and body awareness. Additionally, Strawberry’s natural intuitive presence will put clients with heightened energy at ease.

Years of Service: Strawberry arrived at The Shea Center in March 2026, and we are looking forward to many years of service ahead for riders of varying skill levels.

Previous Career(s): Before coming to The Shea Center, Strawberry worked as a lesson horse, trained in obstacles for a Veterans program, and pulled a cart.
