Early in January, before the winter session begins, The Shea Center staff readies the facility for a day of fun. Back to Shea Day is an open house for our clients, their families, and the community. At the open house, horseback riding, horse interaction, a petting zoo, face painting, games, and lunch are all available and provided at no charge!
Horseback riding is available for guests two years through 17 years of age. Each participant has the opportunity to ride one of our Shea Center horses for 15 minutes. This is a fun activity that allows current clients the opportunity to ride with their friends or family.

Horse interaction may include leading The Shea Center’s most mature horse in the barn, Benny, our 33-year-old miniature horse, as well as his pal, Mac ‘N Cheese. During horse interaction, guests can feed treats to the horses, learn about grooming, and groom the horses.

Tucker Carriages provides an interactive petting zoo with adorable animals. Always included is The Shea Center’s favorite goat, Shea, named after the Center because Tucker frequently provides us with their petting zoo experiences.
In 2020, the Laguna Beach National Charity League Chapter provided face painting, temporary tattoos, and helped with all the games. The Habit Burger Truck provided lunch for all our guests.
