Emerson, CCI Facility Dog Celebrates 10 Years!

Nov 15, 2019 | More Info

Emerson is a Labrador/Golden Retriever mix who has been “on staff” as The Shea Center’s facility dog for 10 years this November! Trained by professional instructors at Canine Companions for Independence to work in a health care, visitation, or educational setting, Emerson was placed at The Shea Center in 2009. Canine Companions facility dogs are trustworthy in professional environments and can perform over 40 commands designed to motivate and inspire clients with special needs.

Emerson’s facilitator, Shea Center therapist, Trish Evans, is responsible for his handling and care. Before arriving at The Shea Center as a two-year-old, Emerson spent two weeks one-on-one with Trish practicing the most commonly used commands, and making certain they worked well together and he was appropriate for our work at the Center.

As one of the most popular staff members, Emerson provides a calm, yet motivating atmosphere for all our clients as well as being valued for the unconditional love, attention, and friendship he offers.
