Physical Therapy Telehealth Stories at The Shea Center

May 14, 2020 | Clients, Physical Therapy

Colette P. is one fierce 4-year-old! Walking in her walker isn’t easy for her, but she and her mom come up with ways to make it fun and motivating.

During her last telehealth session Colette transformed into Elsa from Disney’s Frozen and walked throughout her patio to save the forest creatures from the fire caused by the fire salamander. She took big steps and walked fast to put out the fires with her ice powers! Colette’s family all joined in to make her physical therapy fun.

Colette’s physical therapist, Matt, says Colette is showing great improvement in her walking with longer stride lengths and a greater ability to reach for objects while walking. Way to go Colette!

Physical therapist, Randi, says “It’s been amazing seeing such short term improvement in Maggie G.’s skills during our Telehealth physical therapy sessions.

“The most challenging part of teaching a new motor skill is where to put your hands to help enough but not too much. I’ve seen wonderful growth in not only Maggie’s skills (such as standing on one leg and transitioning from the ground using a mature half kneel strategy), but also in mom’s ability to coach, regulate, and assist her with those activities. This is absolutely vital because the real work and real success does not come from one hour each week, but in all the hours in between.”
