Every Tuesday and Saturday, Kate G. (age 5) and her mother Donna have a fun time together at The Shea Center. Those are the days that Donna sidewalks with Kate during her occupational and speech therapy treatments. Kate rides Remi and Merry, her favorite, and loves to tell the horses to “walk on.”
The Center has helped Kate be more confident in her abilities. Despite developmental and speech delays and some sensory challenges, Kate is more willing to do new things, rather than assuming she can’t. Kate is a social little girl who makes friends easily and is becoming more independent.
After her lessons, Kate enjoys telling her family about the horses and her ride. Just like at The Shea Center, she has now named all of the horses in her toy stable at home. Kate and her mom wrote their story for the Center’s Drive to Ride campaign and Kate will be participating in The Shea Center’s summer horse camp.
