Joan Robinson became a physical therapy utilizing hippotherapy client at The Shea Center in 2011 after living for years with physical impairments caused by a stroke.
The unique three-dimensional movement of the horse challenges her balance and postural stability. This movement activates muscle contractions in her trunk and extremities unlike any other therapeutic strategy found in a hospital or clinic setting. With this therapy, she has improved the strength and overall symmetry necessary to regain function and independence in her life.
