Doctor of Physical Therapy, Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor

Jennifer Hawke was first introduced to the world of equine assisted services at the age of 13. She became enthralled by the impact riding could have on people’s lives and empower them in ways they never imagined. At that point, she decided to pursue a career in physical therapy with hopes of working in a hippotherapy setting.

Originally from Chesapeake, Virginia, she completed her Bachelor of Exercise Science degree at California State University Los Angeles and went on to receive her Doctorate in physical therapy at Azusa Pacific University.  She also completed a 10-week physical therapy internship at The Shea Center and began working at the Center in March 2020. In June 2021, Jennifer received her therapeutic riding instructor certification through PATH Intl.

Jennifer confides she is proud of pursuing her dream and is often complimented on her ability to connect with her clients in a compassionate manner and form valued and trusting relationships with them. Jennifer’s ideal client is someone with an open mind and a willingness to try new things to achieve their goals.  She enjoys finding fun and creative ways to work with her clients and is passionate about sharing her knowledge and providing education to help her clients feel confident and more independent.

Jennifer comments, “I love the atmosphere at The Shea Center. It is a place where our clients, families, volunteers, and staff can have fun and grow together. My favorite part of my job is getting to see my clients achieve things that they might not have thought possible at first. It is such a privilege to empower them with the confidence to try new things and to help them excel and grow.”

During her time off, Jennifer enjoys horseback riding, snowboarding, off-roading, scuba and free-diving, and hiking.
