A lifelong horsewoman and 35+ year resident of San Juan Capistrano, Susan came to The Shea Center as a lesson volunteer in 2009. Her horsemanship and passion for Shea’s clients quickly led to her certification as a therapeutic riding instructor.
Susan’s dedication to community service led to her joining The Shea Center’s board of directors and previously chairing the Drive to Ride campaign. As a member of the board of directors, she has been part of the gala and BBQ committees, the endowment committee and most recently, her service on the executive committee has led to her third term as the board chair.
With characteristic modesty and graciousness, Susan continues to lead The Shea Center through unprecedented times. Her example of servant leadership inspires optimism throughout the organization. She keeps her eyes on our mission and encourages staff and volunteers to chart new paths that positively transforms the future of The Shea Center for our clients.
Susan will be celebrated with The Shea Center’s highest honor, The Michael Lewis Friends of the Disabled Award, on June 25, 2022 at our gala event held at Montage Laguna Beach. This award, created in honor of our first rider, celebrates the contributions of individuals, organizations, families, and companies that significantly impact the lives of people with disabilities at The Shea Center and in the greater community.
Congratulations, Susan! We are grateful and pleased to honor you for the unconditional love, devotion and skill you give so freely to The Shea Center!
