Therapy Horse Bio: Meet Major

Apr 19, 2023 | Our Barn

Meet the always charming Major! His calm demeanor and natural forward movement make him a great fit for his job at The Shea Center.

Why we love him: Major is a sensitive yet easy going horse who likes to move! He is quite personable and loves a good face rub, which makes him the perfect horse to learn grooming and practice self-care skills on.

What makes him a great therapy horse: His naturally forward walk is a crowd pleaser, with good rotational movement to challenge our clients‘ core muscles and balance and high amplitudes of movement for our sensory seekers. He is loved by our clients of all ability levels, as he easily accommodates all aspects of our programs with his size, training and disposition.

Years of Service: Major has been used in our therapyadaptive riding, and military programs since 2017, making him a very versatile member of the herd.

Previous Career(s): Before coming to The Shea Center, Major was shown up to First Level dressage and was owned by a family that bred Morgan horses in Los Angeles.

Fun Fact: Major loves to play with toys, including a rubber chicken he will throw in the air!
