Therapy Horse Bio: Meet Jericho

Dec 8, 2023 | Our Barn

The Assistance League of Laguna Beach funded this handsome 16.2 hands Friesian/Quarter Horse purchase in August 2023, and he has transitioned into a wonderful therapy horse.

Why we love him: With a heartwarming and affectionate personality coupled with an innate eagerness to please, he is an ideal therapy horse for bringing comfort and joy to those in need. He is often described as having the personality of a golden retriever and can often be seen poking his head over his stall door, looking for pets and attention.

What makes him a great therapy horse: Jericho’s tall stature is a huge benefit for our adult clients and makes him a great fit for our military and adaptive riding programs. His long limbs offer a bounding stride, making him perfect for satisfying sensory needs and regulating input.

Years of Service: He joined our herd in 2023. Jericho primarily works in our military and adaptive riding programs.

Previous Career(s): Jericho was a trail and lesson horse before being purchased by The Shea Center. He is trained in both Western and English styles of riding.

Fun Fact:  Jericho was pictured in an article about our military programs in an online publication The Voice of OC in an article titled “‘Becoming a Civilian Again,’ Veterans Use Equine Training to Combat Mental Stress”, published on Veterans Day, 2023.
