“Safety first” is one of The Shea Center’s primary mottos. From the first day a horse arrives at the Center, it begins to learn “The Shea Way” of horse control methods. This creates a safe and consistent practice for the handling of the horses by our staff, volunteers, and clients.

Our horses go through extensive desensitization training and learn to accept a multitude of objects, sounds, and movements. They are schooled using the TRT Method of relaxation. By familiarizing our horses with potentially alarming situations and training them to relax, the horses become comfortable in any situation further adhering to our philosophy of “safety first”.
