Eight Horse Breeds, Ponies, and Miniature Horses Too!

Jun 4, 2020 | Our Barn

The Shea Center currently has 25 specially trained therapy horses, ponies, and miniature horses that require consistent attention. Our herd is comprised of various breeds, types, sizes, ages, temperaments, and movements all contributing to the success of our program.

In the Shea barn we have Quarter Horses with strong, well-muscled bodies and an easy way of moving; Gypsy Vanners with calm, sweet personalities and a desire to please and Lusitanos with thick, gracefully arched necks and muscular shoulders.

We also have Morgans, compact and refined in build with strong legs and gently sloping shoulders; an Arabian, high-spirited and sensitive with a compact body, short back, and well-angled hips; and a Thoroughbred with a deep chest, lean body, and long legs built for agility and speed.

There are also Warmbloods, a good mix between the “cold-blooded” draft type horses and the “hot-blooded” horses.

And of course, our herd wouldn’t be complete without “Kenny”, a gaited Tennessee Walking Horse with a unique flashy four-beat running-walk that is smooth as silk. We also have ponies and miniature horses. In The Shea Center barn there is a suitable horse for everyone.
