We are saddened to share that Mississippi, our adorable 21 year old chestnut Quarter horse, was humanely euthanized this weekend when she did not respond to diligent treatment efforts for colic. The difficult decision was made collectively by the emergency veterinarian and the equine team in the best interest of her health and wellbeing. Mississippi was initially on loan to us to support our summer horse camp because she was so gentle and fond of kids.
While her time with us was limited, her impact was impressive. Mississippi (aka Pippi) became a beloved hit during camp with her sweet nature and affinity for children. The original intent to formally welcome her into our program as a therapy horse was cut short and is heartbreaking.
Thank you for your empathy, love, compassion, and understanding as we grieve the loss of dear Mississippi. We honor this sweet mare in recognition of the positive impact of her service. ❤️
