Rett Syndrome Awareness Month

Oct 28, 2022 | Adaptive Riding, Clients

Did you know that October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month? Shea Center staff, volunteers, and clients support by wearing purple, the color for Rett Syndrome Awareness 💜

Rett syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that affects brain development and can impact gait, speech, eating, and even breathing. Caused by a gene mutation on the X chromosome, Rett syndrome occurs in 1 in 10,000 female births and is very rare in males. Check out the International Rett Syndrome Foundation website to learn more.

Lauren and Jaidyn have been clients at The Shea Center for more than 15 years and are in our Adaptive Riding program, which helps improve their core strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!
