Volunteer of the Month: Taylor L.

Mar 15, 2019 | Volunteers

Because of her consistency, enthusiasm, and hard work, Taylor L. has been selected as The Shea Center’s volunteer of the month.

Taylor first learned of The Shea Center through her high school Interact club. She and her Interact friends raised money for a donation to the Center and were invited for a tour of the facility. After learning about the volunteering opportunities here, Taylor was eager to get started.

Upon her arrival at The Shea Center, Taylor enjoyed meeting the other volunteers and the horses. Therapy horse, Auggie, particularly caught her eye, and she has formed a close bond with him. Taylor says Auggie’s sweet face and kind personality remind her of her chocolate Labrador Retriever.

Lesson treatment assistant, Rita Santaella remarks, “Taylor is a very sweet person and extremely helpful down at the barn. All of the horses and her fellow volunteers really enjoy her positive demeanor.”

Since the beginning, Taylor has been a dependable volunteer in hippotherapy lessons. She enjoys learning how to incorporate fun games and activities into the clients’ therapy programs.

Occupational therapist, Karen Yamasaki says, “Taylor is one of the most kind and compassionate volunteers I have met. I can always count on her to be a consistent volunteer, and she adores my client, Aaron. With her playful energy, she is always thinking of new ideas to make our sessions fun.”

A busy student, in her free time, Taylor is active in the Interact club and runs cross-country for her high school.

The Shea Center is fortunate to have committed volunteers like Taylor, who love to work closely with our clients and who are eager to learn about the therapies we provide. Thank you for your dedication, Taylor, and congratulations!
