The Shea Center Challenge Course: A Path to Growth and Connection

Jan 14, 2025 | More Info

The Shea Center’s challenge course benefits clients and horses, enhancing their physical and mental well-being. Participants can ride or lead horses through various carefully designed obstacles.

This comprehensive course is used in all Shea Center programs, including hippotherapy, adaptive riding, equine assisted psychotherapy, equine assisted learning, and military programs.

Success in the course requires self-awareness, patience, and harmony with one’s horse. While the challenges may test one’s abilities, participants are encouraged to remain flexible and find satisfaction in their efforts, even if they don’t achieve complete success.

Sometimes, the therapy team uses the course without horses to help clients develop gross motor skills and enhance functional abilities.

Overall, the challenge course serves as a motivating and enjoyable tool that positively impacts both The Shea Center’s clients and horses.
