Horse leaders at The Shea Center are a vital part of our client services. Every Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., we offer continuing education classes designed to support our horse leaders and help us provide client services at the highest level.

These classes are thoughtfully planned by the Volunteer Department and Alex Johnson, an Advanced CTRI and our Program & Education Support Coordinator. During each class, leaders work to improve the quality of the horse’s movement through the proper use of the four natural aids: hands, legs, seat, and voice.

The classes also provide an opportunity for Level 1 and Level 2 leaders to build their skills and progress toward Leader Level 3. For our Level 3 volunteers, they offer a fun and valuable way to continue improving their horsemanship skills on the ground.
If you are interested in joining a class, please let the Volunteer Department know! Classes are limited to six participants, but all volunteers are encouraged to attend and audit the classes.
