Why we love her: Breana leads and sidewalks in lessons and was an integral part of our camp team as a leader this summer. She is always willing to learn in order to help out whenever possible. Breana may add ‘barn steward’ to her Shea resume.  

Road to The Shea Center: “When I moved to Mission Viejo during my sophomore year of high school I wanted to explore new opportunities within the community. My history teacher at the time recommended The Shea Center as he heard many great stories from students who’ve volunteered here.”  

Years of service: Breana began volunteering in 2016, then took a break to attend Boston University. She returned as a volunteer in spring 2021.

Favorite Shea memories: “My favorite memory is seeing the riders develop their self-confidence and confidence with the horses as their connection deepens. After over a year of masks and social distancing, it is great to see the smile on the rider’s face as they maneuver their horse around barrels or trot without my lead rope setting the pace.”

Lessons learned: “Coming back to The Shea Center after four years in Boston, it was great to see some of the same faces I remember from 2016. The warm and welcoming atmosphere I remembered continues, and I love how dedicated the staff and volunteers are to creating the best experience for our riders, especially during the summer camps. The Shea Center is a place where volunteers and riders are cared for by the staff, and this is one of the unique qualities that makes The Shea Center one of my favorite places.”

She finds her bliss doing this: Breana enjoys the outdoors and exploring new hobbies. “I’ve picked up snowboarding after the lovely winters in Boston, and I enjoy playing soccer and basketball.”

Future plans: “To continue being of service to my community.  I plan to continue spreading knowledge and joyous memories with others as I venture into new opportunities.”
