Volunteer of the Month: Caprice

Jun 13, 2023 | Volunteers

We are pleased to honor Caprice Trejo as our volunteer of the month.

Why we love her: Like clockwork, Caprice volunteers an afternoon a week, session after session, year after year! In addition to her dependability, she is always flexible (for example: “You’re leading a new horse today!”) and takes everything in stride. Caprice is primarily a horse leader and has served as a sidewalker and barn support when needed. As a leader, she pulls, grooms, and tacks the horse before leading in a therapy treatment or adaptive riding lesson.  “While it is very fun, it takes a lot of concentration and bonding with the horses to ensure the safety of our riders.”

Path to The Shea Center: “I first learned about The Shea Center through clients and friends who had children involved with the program.”

Years of service: Caprice has been a volunteer for six years.

Lessons learned: “The biggest thing I’ve learned is the impact of human kindness. The dedication of everyone involved has taught me that anything is possible if your heart is in the right place.”

Favorite Shea Center memories: “Seeing the riders gain confidence and riding skills throughout the years. Even if I’m not directly working with them anymore, it’s so fun to see their growth and riding independently! I’ve had the opportunity to watch these kids grow up and change in the best ways!”

When not at The Shea Center, she can be found doing this: “I work as a full-time hair stylist in San Clemente. I also love traveling and hiking with my husband on the weekends!”

She finds her bliss…: “I find my bliss in nature and with animals. The Shea Center allows me to give back while being in a beautiful, supportive environment! Thank you, Shea Center!
