Congratulations to Gabriel, our new volunteer of the month. Michele, the volunteer services manager, remarks, “Gabriel has been a reliable and consistent volunteer for the past couple of years. The staff appreciates his ability to engage with the clients and participate actively in each lesson.”
Why we love him: Gabriel is a dependable and flexible sidewalker who goes with the flow when assigned different clients and is always willing to help clients and therapists during therapy sessions.
Path to The Shea Center: Gabriel was inspired by his older brothers Matthew and Zachary, who volunteered at The Shea Center. “Their enjoyment in volunteering, along with all their stories of volunteering, made me want to volunteer there as well.” We love that family dynamic!
Years of Service: Gabriel began volunteering in the Fall of 2021.
Lessons learned: “I’ve learned a lot about the processes of physical and speech therapy through the therapists, which is very important to me as I want to be a physical therapist in the future.”
Favorite Shea Center memories: “One of my favorite memories is going on trail rides with one of the riders and helping collect flowers for their bouquet.”
When not at The Shea Center, he can be found doing this: “I enjoy doing activities with my Boy Scout Troop and spending time with my family. I am also working toward my Eagle Scout rank, and The Shea Center is the beneficiary for my project.” Gabriel is planning and overseeing the building and painting of two arena cabinets for toys.
He finds his bliss doing this…: “I find bliss when I get to spend time with my friends and relax and enjoy a good meal.”
