Congratulations to Julie Froley, our June Volunteer of the Month. Volunteer Services Manager Michele Gingras says, “Julie is so reliable and great with clients. She is a pleasure to work with!”
Why we love her: Always happy; always positive…Julie is our ray of sunshine!
Road to The Shea Center: “For 20 years, I announced at the horse shows at Sycamore Trails. I woul d pass by the Fran Joswick Center and hope to one day volunteer there. When I retired from announcing, I decided to come and see what The Shea Center is all about.”
Years of Service: Julie has been a Shea volunteer for 10 years.
Lessons learned: “Safety, clients’ needs, sidewalking techniques, and friendships to last a lifetime. I’ve also learned a lot about myself with regard to counting my blessings and living every day to the fullest.”
Favorite Shea Center memories: “When I first started working with Lorelei, she came to Shea in a stroller. I have watched her progress to a walker, and now she can walk independently. The joy on her face and the hugs I get are the reason I love volunteering at Shea. I also enjoy working with Owen. He’s such a smart little boy who teaches me something new every time we meet. He knew more of the planets than I did on our scavenger hunt. A recent memory is watching my son become a volunteer at Shea. It’s a wonderful time to let us make memories together.”
When not volunteering at Shea, she can be found doing this: “I have been a preschool teacher for 30 years, which is why I find comfort in working with younger children. I love going to horse shows with my daughter, who is a trainer, and I love to watch my grandchildren play soccer.”
She finds her bliss…: “Helping others. The people and the animals at The Shea Center are good for my soul! I love being around such a positive, supporting group of people!”
